Albo needs to apologise to parents who want childcare flexibility

Today I wrote to the Prime Minister about his extremely offensive remarks referring to people who want greater financial flexibility in regards to childcare, as “cookers.”

I have asked him to apologise and for a respectful debate on the issue.

I will continue to fight for greater flexibility for childcare support.

In particular I wish to acknowledge the following groups who contribute to our society and economy:

1) stay at home parents who give up their careers to raise their own children

2) the millions of shift workers whose work hours don’t align with childcare centre hours

3) fly in, fly out workers who don’t need childcare on their days off

4) farming families who can’t afford the time or cost in driving in and out of town to drop off their children

5) part time workers who don’t want to pay for 12 hours of childcare when they may prefer to pay a nanny for a few hours.

The Labor Party cannot be trusted with our children. Government should protect families not destroy them.
