FEATURED NEWS

An Australia scientist worked with Fauci to cover up the origins of Covid. Why?

“The Medical Countermeasures Consortium is a four-nation partnership involving the Defence and Health Departments of Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom and the United States.

The Consortium seeks to develop medical countermeasures to assist with all-hazard preparedness and response for the participant countries. The emphasis of the Consortium is on chemical, biological and radiological (CBR) threats affecting civilian and military populations and on emerging infectious diseases and pandemics.

Medical countermeasures include drugs, vaccines and diagnostics (devices and materials). Success in delivering these measures has broader implications affecting biosurveillance, force health protection and global health security.”

Another Government Department that deals with biological threats but still knows nothing and isn’t interested in finding out about the origins of Covid or Australian scientists involved in the coverup of its origins.

Senator RENNICK: Could I please speak with the Medical Countermeasures Consortium. Thanks for your patience today. I know you’ve been waiting all day. The reason I’ve asked you here is that on the consortium’s website it states:

The Consortium seeks to develop medical countermeasures to assist with all-hazard preparedness and response for the participant countries. The emphasis of the Consortium is on chemical, biological and radiological (CBR) threats affecting civilian and military populations and on emerging infectious diseases and pandemics.

I note that money has been distributed by the federal government. In 2017, $3½ million was given to Professor Edward Holmes for research into RNA viruses. He’s just got another $700,000 for research into preparing for pandemics. But he also worked for the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention from 2014 onwards, and he was also named in emails in the US Congress as having liaised with Australian intelligence. Have you liaised with Professor Edward Holmes at all? If so, what did you discuss?

Prof. Monro : Thank you, Senator, for your question. I can make some general remarks about the medical countermeasures activities, but I don’t have specific details here about Professor Holmes. I have not had personal interactions with him.

Senator RENNICK: Okay. The reason why I’m concerned is that in the US Congress it’s been disclosed that an Australian scientist worked with Anthony Fauci to cover up the origins of coronavirus—in particular, the gain-of-function research. He conducts gain-of-function research here in Australia, as I believe other scientists do. If you’re concerned about the threats of, as your own page says, biological threats affecting civilian and military populations, are you prepared to discuss with Professor Edward Holmes what exactly his involvement was with the origins of coronavirus, why he was working with the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention and why he seemed so keen to cover up the gain-of-function theory?

Prof. Monro : I can confirm that we have not supported any work that can be classified as gain-of-function research. I am happy to take on notice some further work to look in more detail at what Professor Holmes has been doing.

Senator RENNICK: Are you prepared to investigate the threat of gain-of-function research here in Australia and threats overseas coming back into Australia, as you saw with COVID-19?

Prof. Monro : We have been involved in whole-of-government work that’s had a look at what has been done in Australia in gain-of-function research. I looked through that carefully myself and was comfortable that we have not supported any work in that area. I’m happy to update that and come back on notice.

Senator RENNICK: It happens here in Australia. I get that people do research on viruses; that’s not the issue. The issue is how you’re dealing with the risks that there’s an outbreak, whether intended or not, because this is something that scientists are clearly going to be doing. We know that they’re saying that it’s only a matter of time before there is another pandemic outbreak. I guess that’s my point. It’s not just specific to what happened in the past; it relates to the overall general threat and risk of unregulated gain-of-function research.

Prof. Monro : I hear your comments, and I’m happy to come back with more detail, but, as I said, we have not supported work in this area, and I’m not aware of any detail.

Senator RENNICK: I’m not asking if you’re supporting it; I’m asking if you’re analysing the risk and looking at minimising those potential risks.

Prof. Monro : We do work very carefully and interconnectedly with the whole of the system here in Australia to understand how the biological research being done in this nation can bring benefit to defence. We have not done a recent analysis of risk, but I’m happy to come back with more detail on notice.

Senator RENNICK: Do you think the fact that Professor Edward Holmes worked with the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention warrants an investigation, at least, in terms of looking at risk?

Prof. Monro : I think that I’d need to have some more information at hand before I could form a judgement on whether such an investigation was warranted.

Senator RENNICK: Okay. Thanks for your time.
