The Government needs to get the RBA and Post Office to work together to provide banking services
We need a Government Bank.
In Estimates I sought a commitment from the Government that they would ensure that banking services remain in the regions.

The rorts never end do they.
In estimates I quizzed Air Services staff on why they are claiming such extravagant expenses on overseas holidays and meals.

The most important skillset when it comes to managing a business is capital management. This includes government.
In terms of capital management, it’s not just retail banking that needs to be overhauled in this country. Wholesale funding and banking regulation needs to be overhauled as well.

Last Friday, the RRAT Senate committee released recommendations from the inquiry into the closure of branches in the regions.
This has been one of most important Senate inquiries of recent years and the response to it was enormous.

Recently the Greens moved a motion in the Senate arguing Australia doesn’t do enough for refugees. Australia has a very generous refugee policy accepting 20,000 refugees a year. It’s much higher than other First world countries, based on population.

It beggars belief that the RBA could print $300 billion to pay people to stay at home and get brainwashed by State Premiers but not actually set about funding our Australia’s infrastructure which would actually solve our productivity crises which is what is driving inflation.

When I asked the Environment Department about whether or not they had done a total all-of-Australia environmental assessment on the impact of renewables, I was told that they only do project-by-project assessments.

Just a small critique on the direction of the Albanese Labor Government.

“Like the Murray-Darling river system, our dairy industry is complex and varies significantly by state. Trying to determine a price for milk that keeps everyone happy will be impossible and only goes to show how out of touch One Nation is.”

Just prior to my maiden speech, during the winter break I undertook a two-week regional and rural listening tour of my home state, because on this side of the chamber we take the concerns of the people living in regional Queensland seriously. I had the opportunity to meet with community groups and not-for-profits such as the Royal Flying Doctor Service, mayors and councillors from our state regional councils and of course lots of farmers and small business people.

The Australian economy is on the road and moving forward. It reminds me of the Mad Max scene with the V8 Interceptor charging forward. I find it interesting that Labor Senator Ayres should accuse us of closing down the car industry, because back in 1987 it was actually Button and his tariff plans that put it under pressure.

Mr President, I would like to acknowledge my colleagues in the chamber and special guests in the gallery who are here today. I would also like to thank the people of Queensland and the LNP for the faith they have placed in me to represent them over the next six years.
