21. What is the average age of death of those reported to the TGA? 22. What is the average age of severe adverse events reported to the TGA?

Question Number: 109
PDR Number: SQ22-000097
Date Submitted: 24/02/2022
Department or Body: Department of Health

To 28 February 2022, the average age of people for whom an adverse event which resulted in death was reported to the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) was 74 years.

‘Severe’ is not a classification used by the TGA for adverse events. However, an adverse event is classified as ‘serious’ if it:
• results in death
• is life-threatening
• results in inpatient hospitalisation or prolonged hospitalisation
• results in persistent or significant disability or incapacity
• is associated with a congenital anomaly or birth defect, or
• is a medically important event or reaction.

To 28 February 2022, the average age of people for whom a serious adverse event was reported to the TGA was 49 years.
