FEATURED NEWS

The NSW government doesn’t count a person as being vaccinated until 21 days after the receiving the first dose of the vaccine. Is it therefore correct to say it takes three weeks for the vaccine to work against the Covid virus?

The COVID-19 vaccines being administered in Australia require two doses to provide the best immunity. The first dose helps the immune system create a response against SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, with the second dose boosting the immune response to ensure long-term protection against COVID-19. Whilst partial protection against COVID-19 may be as soon as 12 days after the first dose, this protection is likely to be short lived. A two-dose course is recommended for all individuals for optimal protection.
