228 It is true that human ACE2 receptors are not expressed on all cell types, and vaccine mRNA encapsulated in LNPs could be taken up by most cell types. However, this does not mean the vaccine mRNA is more ‘pathogenic’ or even at all ‘pathogenic’. While the SARS-CoV-2 virus can replicate in human cells, available at: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/34611326/, vaccine mRNA or spike protein does not replicate in the human body. Nonclinical toxicity studies at very high doses showed no adverse effects except for expected immune response-related findings. Safety of the mRNA vaccines was also demonstrated by clinical data. 230 The detail in this question has incorrectly been attributed to the nonclinical report for the Pfizer vaccine, COMIRNATY. It is unclear which report is being referred to in this question.
