FEATURED NEWS

1. In the 2019 Great Barrier Reef inquiry AIMS could not provide coral growth (not coral cover) measurements since 2005. AIMS said in the inquiry more recent coral growth rate measurements would be available in the next year or so. Are more recent coral growth rates measurements available and if so, could they be provided? 2. Could the most recent coral cover figures across the reef please be provided? 3. For context, could a relative ranking to prior years, please be provided based on size of the coral cover?

Question Number: 1
PDR Number: AI-01
Date Submitted: 22/02/2022
Department or Body: Industry, Science, Energy and Resources

AIMS refers Senator Rennick to its response to his question on this matter at 2020-21 Budget Estimates (Portfolio question number: BI-35).

1. Please refer to paragraph 1 and the excel attachment which provides all the Great Barrier Reef coral cores growth data that AIMS holds – there are no additions to the data provided in response to BI-35. AIMS reiterates its offer to discuss the software and usability requirements and options for data transfer to tailor the data provision.

2-3. Please refer to paragraph 2 of the response to BI-35. Note that the AIMS 2021 Long Term Monitoring Report provides the most recent coral cover figures and provides the complete trend based on the long-term data series by region, and a comparison to previous years.
