Under the National Partnership on COVID-19 Response (Partnership) Hospital Services Payment, the Australian Government provides a 50% contribution to the states and territories (jurisdictions), for the diagnosis and treatment of COVID-19, including suspected cases. All funding provided to jurisdictions under the Partnership is subject to reconciliation, which ensures the Commonwealths contribution reflects the actual amount of activity delivered for in-scope services. Australian Government funding delivered under the Hospital Services Payment is provided on the basis of services being delivered where COVID-19 is, or is suspected of being, the primary diagnosis. Where a patient is admitted with a primary diagnosis other than COVID-19 (for example, a broken arm), funding is provided through the usual public hospital funding arrangements under the National Health Reform Agreement.
