To 28 February 2022, the average age of people for whom an adverse event which resulted in death was reported to the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) was 74 years.
‘Severe’ is not a classification used by the TGA for adverse events. However, an adverse event is classified as ‘serious’ if it:
• results in death
• is life-threatening
• results in inpatient hospitalisation or prolonged hospitalisation
• results in persistent or significant disability or incapacity
• is associated with a congenital anomaly or birth defect, or
• is a medically important event or reaction.
To 28 February 2022, the average age of people for whom a serious adverse event was reported to the TGA was 49 years.
