The COVID-19 Vaccine Claims Scheme (the Scheme) is a no-fault Scheme that enables eligible claimants who have received a Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) approved COVID-19 vaccine to obtain compensation for moderate to significant injury or death caused by a COVID vaccine or its administration. Claims need to be supported with a medical report from the treating doctor that the condition is most likely linked to the patient’s vaccination. The $76.9 million reported in the Social Services Portfolio Budget Statement for the 2022-23 October Budget is based on the advice from the office of the Australian Government Actuary on the potential liability of the Scheme as at 30 June 2022.
